Maryland Drawn To Leesburg Grocery War

by DullesHomeGuy on January 31, 2010

Was talking to a woman from MD recently.

She had come over to Leesburg initially to check out the new Wegmans.

Discovered there was a Cosco and checked out Shoppers across the street.

She compared savings to a Giant in Germantown.

Her savings more than pay for the $7 car ferry (Whites Ferry) trip on a “stock up” run.

Shoppers and Wal Mart are duking it out for low prices.

Shoppers has produce, the Leesburg Wal Mart does not.

Large $1 red bell peppers–in the dead of winter–aren’t these usually $4?

Wegmans and Harris Teeter jostle for customer service points.

HT is the winner.

Wegmans may have the bling but some new staff have New York grouchiness (Wegmans is from NY)–not a plus in the southland.

Leesburg still has a bit of Winchester in it, 2000s country club wave notwithstanding.

The Leesburg Home Depot has launched a major friendliness offensive as it was revealed Lowe’s purchased land nearby.

Leesburg OutletsĀ  zone also has (all are “marketplace” grocery stores):

  • SuperTarget
  • Giant
  • Bloom
  • Share/Bookmark
