Sorry folks.
Home sale contingencies are usually not accepted by builders for new construction.
Current Northern Virginia market conditions indicate inventories lower than 3 months supply which means builders have enough buyers to choose from without taking on this risk.
Even during the dark days of 2008, many builders would not take this contingency.
Yet some builders would agree to wait for buyers to sell their old home–but only up to delivery of the house.
Townhouse rows have to be built all at the same time and it just depended on how many units were sold within the row.
Builders and other sellers won’t wait forever so sale contracts had time limit stipulations for cancellation.
There are a few possibilities depending on how strong your home market is.
If the old house is for sale in Florida or Michigan for instance, sellers are likely to say a flat no.
